About us

The Greater Vancouver High School Science Association (GVHSSA) is a student-run B.C. non-profit established in February 2014. The association’s main goal is to provide increased access to science opportunities for high school students residing in the Greater Vancouver region. The association does so through its three programs: Vancouver High School Science Olympics, Scope Magazines Distribution, and Portal Tours.

This organization began as an idea among three high school students in the September of 2013. Originally, the goal was to create a student-run science competitions for other students. However, with the support of many volunteers and sponsors along the way, the Greater Vancouver High School Science Association has rapidly expanded to include all manners of programs and members. Currently, we have more than 80 volunteers involved in our organization engaging hundreds of high school students across the Greater Vancouver Region and we are still growing.

Our approach varies greatly from other established organizations. We believe in a hands-on approach, competitive spirits, practical education and exploring outside the textbook because we believe that science is truly something wonderful. In turn, we hope to build important life skills for program participants such as teamwork, communication, problem solving and critical thinking.
